Woman Threatened To Jump Off Bear Mountain Bridge With Kids

An Ossining woman told a Con Ed employee that she was going to take her kids and jump off the Bear Mountain Bridge this morning. Police say the Westchester County resident made the statement after the utility cut off electricity to her home. The unidentified woman made the threat around 9:30 a.m.

“Her power was shut off. I guess she uttered statements to a Con Ed employee, which caused them to call us,” said Ossining Police Lt. Michael McElroy.

After the Ossining Police Department was informed of the disturbing statements, they began investigating and simultaneously notified State Police.  State Police sent two patrols from their Cortlandt barracks to the Bear Mountain Bridge so they could be on the lookout for an emotionally disturbed person with children in a car.

After about an hour, police were able to locate the woman at her job in Ossining. After questioning her, and checking on the safety of her children at school, they found that she and her children were not at risk.

“She made some alarming statements to Con Ed. They contacted us. But apparently everyone is okay,” said Ossining Police Lt. Michael McElroy.

Authorities say the woman will not be charged in connection with the incident.
