The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation released an Air Quality Health Advisory for Rockland County covering the 12 hour period today from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. It will also be a hot day with the temperature expected to reach 90 degrees.
The outdoor air quality levels are expected to be greater than an air quality index of 100 for the pollutant of ozone. At that value, the state health department recommends people limit strenuous outdoor physical activity to avoid dangerous health effects. Certain individuals with pre-existing respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease and the very young may be at greater risk.
This is at least the sixth Air Quality Health Advisory issued for Rockland since mid June. Rockland is part of the NYC Metro Region. Call the state’s toll-free hotline for the most updated information on air quality. The number is 800-535-1345.
