At approximately 4:11PM Saturday night the 1st day of September 2012, The Town of Ramapo Police Department received a report of a robbery at 298 N. Main Street, Iryna’s Liquor Store. A suspect entered the location and followed the female victim behind the counter. The suspect put his hands around the victim’s neck and began to strangle her. The suspect struck the victim about the face and body with his fists and feet. The victim described the suspect as a Hispanic male, with a mustache, in his 40’s, with a green and white striped shirt and jean pants.
The suspect was apprehended approximately ½ hr after the incident by the Ramapo Police. The suspect was also found to be in possession of a gravity knife. He was charged with the above listed crimes and is being held pending arraignment.
The victim complained of head, neck and back pain and was treated at Good Samaritan Hospital.
The suspect identified himself as: Lemus, Jose (DOB-1-9-1976) of 30 Sepher Lane in Chestnut Ridge, N.Y.
